She’s doing something different and should be given credit (5 stars)
I’ve heard Esperanza receive some flack from "jazz fans" about “abandoning” the genre, but whoever said that you have to stick to doing the same thing? I for one am pleased that Esperanza is doing whatever she wants to do artistically. Esperanza Spalding does not owe anybody anything. Who cares what "the critics" say. I hear a lot of Joni Mitchell in One… If only she recorded a studio version of her cover of Help
