Director Alan Parker’s belated 1996 film adaptation of the Webber/Rice ‘80s stage triumph yields a strong, remarkably mature performance from Madonna. This 19-track collection is quite literally the film’s soundtrack, an elaborately executed, neo-operatic recording where Madonna challenged herself by infusing her vocal performances with a sense of dramatic accomplishment that can’t be denied. (“Don’t Cry for Me Argentina is, of course, the album’s monster hit.) Yet despite the inclusion of “You Must Love Me,” a strong new ballad written especially to augment the film, there remains a nagging sense that overall it’s a performance preserved like a butterfly under glass. Perhaps that’s due to the absence of Parker’s riveting visuals, or simply because it often seems like a project a decade removed from its theatrical inspiration.. Customer ReviewsWow, Just Beautiful. (5 stars)I don't know if it is the story, the singing, or the movie it's self, but something about this story that touches my heart in a way I never thought possible. It is a beautiful story beautifuly made into a movie and then in to a lovley soundtrack. It is a must have for any music library. 10 stars!! Great Songs, but such a SAD movie! (5 stars) I knew that Eva Peron died, but I didn't know it was at such a young age of a horrible disease. Madonna was great in the movie, this is pretty much the only movie that she has acted in that is worth seeing mainly because all the rest of her films have all been labeled as flops. The songs are very touching and many of them make your heart sink. Especially the songs "You Must Love Me", "Another Suitcase in Another Hall", &q Great soundtrack! (5 stars) This is a great soundtrack. I actually prefer this to the London Cast's recording. Antonio Banderas is probably my favorite voice in the music. However I wish they would put Andrew Loyd Webber as the artist, not Madonna because she didn't write the songs and she's not even the only singer.
