Our Review

Known affectionately as “The Brown Bomber,” Led Zeppelin II is one of the pillars of hard rock and heavy metal. From the opening stuttering guitar riff of “Whole Lotta Love” through the frenzied, overdriven riffs of “Living Loving Maid,” “Heartbreaker” and “Ramble On,” the album is the textbook for Hard Rock 101. Singer Robert Plant pulls out the sexual bravado for the orgasmic interlude of “Whole Lotta Love,” while Page employs all the production tricks at his disposal to ensure that every beat of John Bonham’s drum hits in the solar plexus. The band pieced the album together during their early tours and the album feeds off both the band’s dynamic energy and their innate need to have more material that could resound in arenas throughout the land. Everything about II is huge. Their reworkings of the blues — “The Lemon Song,” “Bring It On Home” — are loud and furious. But the best material remains the group’s most complex. “What Is and What Should Never Be” runs up and down the dynamic scale while “Thank You” features John Paul Jones’ ethereal organ, exuding an otherworldly pathos the group would explore more fully on their next release.

Their Most Influential Album (5 stars)
Recorded on the road in less than two days, THIS was the album that inspired hundreds of teenagers the world over to pick up a guitar, turn the volume to 10, and Rock their lives away. Tracks like "Moby Dick", "Heartbreaker", and, of course, "Whole Lotta Love" are mandatory for those with even a passing interest in Hard Rock.

Why Don't You Have It Yet? (5 stars)
Seriously, this is an album that no one should be without, Whole Lotta Love is one of the best songs of all time. All of the other songs on this album are rock clasics, most musically educated people have heard of these songs, Moby Dick is and epic drum solo, don't let John Bonham's work go to waste. I salute you iTunes for putting the greatest rock band of all time on.

Whole Lotta Zep (5 stars)
And all at once; epic. Whole Lotta Love has one of the greatest riffs and solos of all time, as does Heartbreaker. These tracks became the blueprint for all heavy metal. Some other classics are What Is and What Should Never Be (one of my all-time favorites by Zep), Thank You (epic ballad) Ramble On with it's Tolkien references (one of the greatest songs ever, seriously) Moby Dick (Jon Bonham's epic drum solo) and Bring It On Home. Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band. It wasn't just their crushingly loud interpretation of the blues — it was how they incorporated mythology, mysticism, and a variety of other genres (most notably world music and British folk) — into their sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique. They rarely gave interviews, since the music press detested the band. Consequently, the only connection the audience had with the band was through the records and the concerts. More than any other band,...
