Favorite holiday album (5 stars)
This album is one of my all-time favorite holiday collections. Lauper's original songs range from fun and witty ("Minnie and Santa" and "Christmas Conga," which dares you not to dance along) to reverent and emotional "New Year's Baby" and "December Child"). Her take on some Christmas classics are gems, too. It's the best version ever of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" (sorry Brenda Lee!).

New music... sounding like classics (5 stars)
Cyndi pretty much can pull of any genre of music, and this album is no exception. Original compositions, save Silent Night (here in a tender and simple arrangement and best known when Pampers used it as its holiday commercial theme a few years back), add an intoxicating, yet somehow familiar, twist on Christmas tunes. This is an excetional Christmas album: fun, tender, joyous, romantic, silly...it's all here. Highly recommended.
