The King of Limbs – Live from the Basement – RadioheadView More By Radiohead Our ReviewRadiohead gathered in the subterranean wing of Maida Vale Studios for a Live from the Basement performance, playing The King of Limbs in its entirety. The kinetic translation of this album from a studio-recorded craft to live performance is another testament to Radiohead’s seasoned musicianship and extraordinary chemistry. “Bloom” opens with the dynamic layering of sounds and ideas that come together when Colin Greenwood’s muted bass joins Thom Yorke’s krautrock-inspired repetitions on the electric guitar. Even the dual flugelhorns here have a more upfront presence than heard in the album’s mix. Although the drums aren’t hard-panned from speaker to speaker in this live rendition of “Morning Mr. Magpie,” watching Yorke and Jonny Greenwood extract funk-based guitar rhythms from an airtight pocket sealed by two drummers is nothing short of amazing. The digital manipulations that give “Feral” its haunting character are noticeably absent here, letting the song breathe as the organic rhythms inadvertently take on Latin characteristics.. Customer ReviewsThe Warmth (5 stars)Delightfully warmer than the dense, multi-layered, choppy studio production that is The King of Limbs. This performance breathes new life into this wonderful batch of songs by Oxfordshire's finest. Highlights include aggressive and beautiful renditions of Little By Little, Feral and Morning Mr. Magpie. Give up the Ghost will floor you with a whisper. Get it! Absolutely Brilliant! (5 stars) This is simply fantastic. There's nothing more marvelous than seeing these songs performed in glorious high definition. The videos simply could not be better. But the band internalized that epic sweep, turning it inside out to tell tortured, twisted tales of angst and alienation. Vocalist Thom Yorke's pained lyrics were brought to life by the group's three-guitar attack, which relied on texture — borrowing as much from My Bloody Valentine and Pink Floyd as R.E.M. and Pixies — instead of virtuosity....
