Our Review

Of all the female r&b singers that have emerged in the wake of Mary J. Blige, only Keyshia Cole has that intangible, goosebump-inducing quality to her voice. When she sings about love, there is always a raw edge that reveals more hurt, anger, and injury than mainstream radio is usually willing to allow. But like Mary J. before her, Cole can’t help but make hits in spite of her intensity, and the world can’t help but pay attention. Cole is the ingredient that makes “Let It Go” a great song; if a singer with less depth of experience took her place, then the song’s catchy Mtume sample would make for little more than a lightweight moment on ladies night. Hearing Cole sing “I can’t explain how many times I tried / How many times I cried” is one of the best reasons to listen to the radio right now. Sandwiched between Missy Elliot’s stylishness and Lil’ Kim’s sass, Cole gives the song a poignancy, an open nerve that wouldn’t otherwise appear, and that feeling is all over Just Like You. Stylistically, the album ranges from bombastic hip-hop (“Didn’t I Tell You”) and saccharine pop ballads (“Heaven Sent”) to top 40 gems (“Shoulda Let You Go”), with the excellent “Same Thing” “Was It Worth It?” and “Fallin’ Out” standing out among the pack. Regardless of the material, Cole reveals a lot of herself in her songs. If Beyonce can be called this era’s Diana Ross, than Keyshia Cole could easily become its Aretha Franklin.

Keyshia Cole-Just Like You (5 stars)
With a great debut, Keyshia has drawn comparisons to a young Mary J. Blige. She returns with her sophomore offering, Just Like You. Let It Go: Missy Elliott knocked it out with the production, as this ladies night out feel good track works extremely well. From the Biggie "Juicy" like production, to Missy's chilled voice of "like damn that's hot!" and Cole's smooth singing. An excellent single. Lil Kim makes a nice appear

Awesome Follow-up Album!!! (5 stars)
Awesome Follow-up Album!!! Keyshia is back y’all with another great album… Her vocals are powerful on just about every song (If not all) I’ll give this album a 10. If you want to buy some goods songs, Recommendations are: T2: Didn’t I Tell You, T7: Heaven Sent… and of course Let It Go/Last Night…but the whole album sounds goods so Buy It! My personal favorite is Heaven Sent (Great singing throughout the whole song)

INCREDIBLE (5 stars)
This girl sings with so much passion...it is ridiculous. She reminds me of Mary J. with her passion, lyrics, and riffs. The production on this album is A-1. There are alot of songs on this album that u will be able to listen to til the end of time. ie...TIMELESS!. A complete album comes around every blue moon. Well...the blue moon is shining bright on Keyshia. If you think you know quality timeless music. Buy this album without hesitation. T

Biography

Born: October 15, 1981 in Oakland, CA
Genre: R&B/Soul
Years Active: '00s, '10s

One of the more genuine urban songstresses to emerge in the 2000s, Keyshia Cole worked her way up the industry ladder diligently yet quickly, making her major-label debut in 2004 at age 21. Born on the other side of the California Bay — the often tough and troubled streets of Oakland — Cole aspired from an early age to make music her life, so much so that she started working the angles while still a preteen. For instance, she did some recording with fellow Bay Area resident MC Hammer...
