Our Review

Live from Madison Square Garden was assembled from the three shows Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood performed together there in February of 2008, and the stellar sequencing and crafty editing make for a truly enjoyable listening experience that plays like one epic concert running a whopping 21 songs deep. “Had to Cry Today” ignites the set sounding like late 1969 Blind Faith right down to the vintage guitar tone, swirling Hammond organ, and Winwood’s unaged voice. A tastefully arranged horn section playing under Winwood’s soulful singing gives Buddy Miles’ “Them Changes” a Spencer Davis Group vibe. The album rocks with bottom-heavy authority as the last five songs play the strongest. A sweeping take on Hendrix’s “Little Wing” and the slow burn of his “Voodoo Chile” sound amazing back-to-back. And the only thing keeping “Can’t Find My Way Home” from sounding 100 percent authentic is the absence of Ginger Baker on drums. “Dear Mr. Fantasy” is still psychedelic and closing with J.J. Cale’s “Cocaine” proved to be a crowd pleaser.

GREAT show (5 stars)
I went and saw this show last spring, and it truly changed the way I view both of these artists. I went to the show expecting to hear some cream, maybe some Traffic of I was lucky. But I was SO glad to hear that they went out of their comfort zones to play songs such as Georgia on my Mind, Kind Hearted Woman (sorry, the show I saw, Clapton played Kind Hearted Woman, not Ramblin on my mind) and Them Changes. It was very ironic that they playe

SYNERGY TO THE MAX!!! (5 stars)
This is not just another live Clapton album, it is Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood bringing out the BEST in each other! These two legends define the meaning of SYNERGY!!! I did not expect this release to be such an energetic album. This is some of Clapton's BEST live guitar playing to date, with him using the foot peddle to introduce several unique tone signatures into old "Blackie". Meanwhile, Winwood has the B-3/Leslie spinning at

Tight Band (5 stars)

By the time Eric Clapton launched his solo career with the release of his self-titled debut album in mid-1970, he was long established as one of the world's major rock stars due to his group affiliations — the Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, and Blind Faith — which had demonstrated his claim to being the best rock guitarist of his generation. That it took Clapton so long to go out on his own, however, was evidence of a degree of reticence unusual for one of his stature....
