View More By Sting Our ReviewTen Summoner’s Tales, Sting’s fifth solo release, is loose, relaxed and loaded with some of his lesser-known pop gems. Where his previous album, The Soul Cages, definitely suited a somber mood, Ten Summoner’s Tales works with just about any state of mind thanks to its strong melodies and good grooves, and its variety. There’s a mock cowboy tune with a surprise ending (“Love is Stronger Than Justice (The Munificent Seven)”), gorgeous ballads (“Fields of Gold,” “Shape of My Heart”), lighthearted, catchy fun (“Heavy Cloud, No Rain,” “She’s Too Good For Me”), and enduring pop (“If I Ever Lose My Faith in You,” “It’s Probably Me”). It also includes the classic “Epilogue (Nothing ‘Bout Me)”, a breezy melody with barbed lyrics that perfectly sums up Sting’s wit and songwriting chops. As he’s done with most of his post-Police work, Sting incorporates horns, keyboards, and strings here to flesh out the songs, creating a synthesis of pop and jazz that has become the defining element of his solo work. And his voice, as smooth and rich as ever, glides over these solid songs effortlessly. Taken as a whole, Ten Summoner’s Tales is arguably Sting’s most enduring and consistent collection of songs.. Customer ReviewsAnother amazing album (5 stars)Someone was playing this album at work today. I was instantly transported to the day I first heard the album. I listened to it over and over for days. It's been years since I've listened to it. Tonight, I searched through my pile of CDs looking for my copy. Couldn't find it. So I'm buying it again. It's worth a second purchase. The best so far (5 stars) Most albums have at least one song you can skip past to get to the better track; not this one. Sting put together a modest variety of music with Ten Summoner's Tales, from the pop-catchy "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" to the procrastinator's theme song "Seven Days," my personal favorite from his solo catalog. The three middle tracks, "She's Too Good for Me," "Seven Days," and "Saint Augustine in Happy Sting (5 stars) Ten Summoner's Tales is a Sting album with little to prove except that Sting can write some incredibly catchy and intelligent pop songs. There is not a single miss on the entire album. From the opener If I ever lose my faith in you to the last song on the album, Nothing 'bout me, Sting seems to be in a good mood which produces some instant classics. Fields of gold immediately comes to mind.
